'TEKA NOVA' FUTURE SAILING PLANS CURRENT SITUATION 1st September 2008 Hi All -------------------------------------------------------------- Our first year has been a tremendous learning curve for us not least of which has been the high level of the cost of cruising, buying food etc in the Caribbean. We have also realised that whatever our best intentions we cannot absolutely garauntee to be in the predicted place at the anticipated time. This has involved some friends in a small extra cost getting on a small inter island aircraft in order to meet up with us. Thats boats unfortunately. We love people coming out to see us and cruise with us, however living on our pensions we just simply cannot afford to subsidise the sunshine holidays of our friends and famillies, and we know everybody understands this and would not expect us to do so. It is very difficult to cost things out on an ad hoc or per week basis, as we generally do all the shopping before people arrive, and we cater in terms of food and drinks to give everybody a high quality holiday on a fully catered basis. Obviously we don't provide for meals taken ashore but everything else is provided including laundry of bedding and towels, marina fees, water, electricity, diesel, etc. We are not out to profit in any way from people coming to see us, but it costs for the standard of living we enjoy on Teka Nova in the Caribbean, approximately £35 per person per day. When we move out of the Caribbean maybe the cost of living will reduce, we will have to wait and see. So for the coming season we will charge £35 per person per day. People coming out to do passages will be charged at £20 per day while on a passage over 5 days and any additional days will be charged at £35 per day. By putting this on the website we are not trying to stop people coming to sail with us but before planning a trip it is only fair that people understand up front what costs are involved. This season in the Caribbean will be the last where friends and familly can come to us for a 'short' holiday ie 8 - 10 days. As we get to the Panama Canal and beyond the travelling times become longer, and so holidays of two weeks or more will become the norm. Flights via the USA become a more attractive option from here on as they have much better connecting flight structures. So if you fancy some fun and at times challenging sailing we will be delighted to see you. PANAMA CANAL For the transit of the Panama Canal we need to carry in addition to Christine and myself three rope handlers. So if the Canal plus a holiday on one side or the other appeals to you let us know. Target date for the transit will be mid - May 2008 LONGER PASSAGES In the Pacific we will be undertaking the following longer passages May - June 2008 Panama or Ecuador to the Galapagos Islands Approx 7 days June - July 2008 Galapagos Islands to the Marquesa Islands Approx 21 days August - Setember 2008 Marquesas to Hawaii/Honolulu Approx 21 days May 2009 Hawaii to Alaska Approx 21 days If anybody would like to join us for these that would be great and would really help us out. They all would count for the qualifying passage for the RYA Ocean Yachtmaster Certificate if this is of interest.
